BUFFALO, N.Y. — The annual climbing began Sunday evening at the Pucho Olivencia Community Center's Grease Pole Festival on Swan Street.
Six-member teams participated in the challenge to climb to the top of the pole by standing on one another's shoulders, all in 25 seconds.
The event, now in its 50th year, celebrates Puerto Rican culture and Hispanic heritage. It featured a full lineup of Latin musicians, Latin DJs, and a full assortment of food vendors and carnival rides.
The event ends at 11 p.m. Sunday.
