DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Due to ongoing repairs to the seawall, Lakefront Boulevard in Dunkirk will be closed for the winter, according to the City of Dunkirk Police Department.

Police say Lakefront Boulevard, between North Beagle and North Serval streets, is closing for public safety. They say the lake overspray can make the roadway very slippery and impassable due to ice and snow build up.

Drivers are being asked to obey posted signs and jersey barriers, avoiding travel on Lakefront Boulevard. Police say anyone driving on that stretch of road will be charged with a violation under the vehicle and traffic law, and may face legal liability.

Also, the City of Dunkirk Department of Public Works will not perform regular road clearing maintenance on Lakefront Boulevard during this time.

The road will open for regular traffic in the spring.
