Tonawanda man dies following assault

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says they were notified that Michael Zuch, 59, passed away Friday morning.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A City of Tonawanda man has died of injuries he suffered following an assault in August.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says they were notified that Michael Zuch, 59, passed away Friday morning.

Zuch was assaulted around 2 a.m. August 4 at the corner of Grove Street and Grove Place in the City of Tonawanda.

Investigators say Zuch was walking in the area when he was confronted by Avery Hunter, 24, of Buffalo. A brief verbal altercation ensued between the two prior to Hunter allegedly punching Zuch's in the face.

According to Zuch's daughter, who spoke to 2 On Your Side in August, he suffered a broken jaw, a concussion, and a brain bleed.

Hunter was originally charged by police with assault. Since Zuch has now died, the case is now being presented to a Grand Jury.
