AMHERST, N.Y. — Amherst Police say they have arrested three people in connection with recent burglaries in the town.

Investigators say they received a report Saturday from a resident in a nearby municipality who observed a suspicious vehicle in her neighborhood.  She gave police a description of the vehicle and the license plate, who alerted other police departments in the area.

That vehicle matched the description of a vehicle thought to be involved in several, recent burglaries in East Amherst.

Amherst Police K9 Officer Nick Scioli spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. Police say the three occupants of the vehicle were identified as Chilean nationals traveling with several forged or fraudulent documents.

They were detained.  Police searched their vehicle and say they found drug paraphernalia and marijuana in the vehicle. Police say the investigation led to evidence that connects the suspects to the burglaries in East Amherst.  They also recovered a loaded handgun.  They say the three suspects are also wanted downstate on similar charges.
