Firefighters respond to blaze at Santora's Pizza Pub and Grill

The building sustained an estimated damage of $450,000 to the structure and its contents.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Fire crews were called to Santora's Pizza Pub and Grill on Transit Road early Saturday morning for reports of a fire.

The fire broke at the restaurant just before 8 a.m., and part of Transit Road was closed for almost an hour.

Upon arrival, firefighters from the Main-Transit Fire Department of Amherst saw fire showing through the roof of the restaurant. Additional fire crews from East Amherst, Clarence Center and Harris Hill fire departments were called to the scene and helped put out the blaze.

Amherst Police say no one was injured, adding that everyone was able to make it out of the restaurant safely.

The building sustained estimated damages of $450,000 to the structure and its contents.

Santora's Pizza Pub and Grill says the Transit Road location is the only one closed at this time.

The location at the Galleria Mall and on Millersport Highway will both remain open. Santora's released a statement saying in part:

"The Santora family and staff are thankful to the crews from Main-Transit, East Amherst, Clarence Center, and Harris Hill fire departments who responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area. Most importantly, there were no injuries reported, and staff were able to make it out of the restaurant safely.

"Our team is currently working with our vendors to restore essential restaurant systems and will have additional information as the week progresses."

The phone system at the Transit location is currently down. Santora's says those who have scheduled banquet events at the Transit Road location should call the Galleria location at (716) 634-6000 and press option three.

According to police, the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311.
