Record Store Day has been known through the years for special vinyl and CD releases and promotional products.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An event celebrating independent record stores will take place on Saturday.

The first Record Store Day happened on April 19, 2008, and it's grown in popularity each year since. It's now held in more than 1,400 stores nationwide.

While an exact list of items vary among stores and cities, Record Store Day has been known through the years for special vinyl and CD releases and promotional products.

Here are the local record stores participating in Record Store Day, according to the official website for the event:

"To the people that enjoy owning the art that they love, in physical form, this is where it's at," Phil Machemer, the owner of Revolver Records, told 2 On Your Side's Nate Benson a year ago. "There's no better way to to have music, and there's no better way to listen to music, and I think that's becoming more apparent."
