Remedy House pushes back reopening to Thursday

Remedy House says they have to push back their reopening because of kitchen equipment issues

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Remedy House had planned on reopening its Rhode Island Street location on Monday morning but had to push back due to some equipment issues.

"We came in yesterday to do the final sweep through and we encountered an issue relating to our cooking equipment, which was about the worst thing that we could walk into," said co-owner Brent Martone. "So we had to get that all buttoned up."

Martone and his other co-owner Christian Willmott will now reopen Remedy House on Thursday.

"The idea of opening without making the egg on a roll breakfast sandwich was just one that I couldn't stomach, it was really hard to make that call," Martone said. "But we had to do it so we could offer off the sandwich everyone's come to know."

Remedy House closed abruptly in February after it announced it was transitioning to a new ownership and management group.

Under the previous ownership in 2023, employees at Remedy House had gone on strike after 5 employees were fired for trying to unionize.

More recently in February of 2024, prior to the new recent change, employees had discovered that they had not been getting paid with their checks bouncing. A former employee had said that the place had been mismanaged to the point where the owners were no longer able to make payroll.

Martone says he's excited to welcome the community back into the café and restaurant.

"I've been working here all day, every day for the last two months. Just getting ready for the opening day and I can't wait to see it happen," Martone said.
